A Delicious Collaboration with Gelato Mania

The journey of this project was incredibly rewarding! From the design concept we had a great amount of creative freedom which led to us presenting our clients with a statement piece that speaks to the true infinite possibilities our products allows for.

When Schabort Associates Architects approached us, they came to us with a very simple brief and the willingness to work together to create something that is beautiful for the space. The project that they were working on was for the popular ice-cream parlor, Gelato Mania, situated on Dean Street in Newlands.

We were enthusiastic to work with them to find a solution that complimented their design direction while still being functional for what the product is ultimately going to be used for. They asked us to create a surface for the counter top and cladding that would become a design feature on the front of their service counter. They were looking for an end result that is seamless from the counter to the front façade cladding, something we are experts at!

The aesthetic vision was to create a dark surfacing finish and we suggested our beautiful Deep Anthracite. This option offers a sense of glamour through its slight speckle detailing in the otherwise black surface. To add to the allure of the design, we polished the final surfacing to a high gloss level to emphasize the shine and glittery speckle of the Deep Anthracite.

The design for the front façade cladding was to incorporate the Gelato Mania logo with our Deep Anthracite. After educating the clients about the possibilities we are able to achieve with our product we were able to have a transparent conversation with them to bring our design ideas to the table. In our design concept we incorporated the Gelato Mania logo with small cut-outs that represented ice-cream cones and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

We were able to achieve this by using our CNC machine to complete these cut-outs with precision. Once we completed the incision detailing with our CNC machine, we filled them with resin- this formed a high-quality finish that was seamless and beautiful.

Finding this innovative design solution by incorporating the logo and cut-out designs was one of our favourite parts of the project! The ability to be slightly creative with our design elevated the end result for the client and allowed us to express our creativity as solution finders.

Overall, this project took a mere three weeks all the way from concept to installation. This is a remarkable turn-around time that was the result of a great working relationship and the ability to bring our ideas to the fore, which was met with open arms. We really enjoy educating clients about the infinite possibilities that our product allows for. This going hand in hand with the resources that we have from our designers to our machinery and our expert craftsmen, we can really achieve anything that we set our mind to and can take a simple concept to an end product that is a conversation piece and design statement.
